Walking Breaks in Scotland

Walking is the perfect way to explore the streets of Scotland’s two biggest cities, Glasgow and Edinburgh. At walking pace, you’ll discover an up-close wonder world of architecture and attractions hidden amid a fascinating network of streets and alleyways. Numerous park and ride sites allow you to leave the car on the outskirts of the cities, so no stress trying to navigate unfamiliar roads.

The Robertson Arms Hotel is an ideal base for exploring both cities and after a hectic day you will be happy to unwind in the peaceful location of Carnwath amidst the finest lowland countryside.

At 707m,Tinto Hill is the highest point in central Scotland yet it is achievable if you take your time. The best reason for climbing Tinto is the excellent view. On a clear day the view takes in Ailsa Craig and Arran in the Firth of Clyde, the Arrochar Alps and north to the Cairngorms.

Visitor attractions such as Rosslyn Chapel, in Midlothian, which was immortalised in Dan Brown’s Da Vinci Code novel, and a 2.5 mile Roslin Glen walk, offer the dual delights of history and walking. A lovely 4 mile walk from Carlops village in Midlothian heads via the beautiful North Esk Reservoir, which is home to a host of waterfowl and marsh birds.
